I first made Bart with the Heart as a custom order for a Valentines's Day gift for somebody, and he was so popular on Instagram that I made him a permanent member of the family. Along with Ed with the Bread and Val with the Pal he's one of my most popular makes!
I start with wheel-thrown white stoneware clay, then add on hand-built ducky features and heart, underglaze the colours, biscuit fire to 900'c then transparent glaze and fire to stoneware 1220'c. At this temperature the glaze becomes glossy and smooth and you're left with a new ceramic companion.
